Here's the Free Fringe plan for 8/9/12
Firth&Arjet Free Fringe Finale
Firth&Arjet has been with the Free Fringe since it began. Now Firth is leaving Austin to go to Philadelphia for school, so we're going to celebrate the duo in this final show presenting everything Firth&Arjet. During their time together they've created five custom show formats and on this special night they will present every one of those shows. There will also be guest appearances by the lady sketch troupe Confirmed Bachelors (performing Thursday will be Amy Gentry and Valerie Ward) and the master storyteller Paul Normandin.
Here's are those formats that you'll get to see:
Actor's Nightmare
Improv with a script! Jessica and Kristin have chosen existing two-person scripted scenes the other doesn't know about. For each scene one of them will have their scene, their lines, their blocking determined by what's written. The other one will improvise with no idea what "should" happen next.
Duologues
Based on an audience suggestion, Jessica and Kristin create unique characters with two simultaneous monologues. Throughout the rest of the show they alternate scenes and monologues to explore the characters and reveal their relationships. The show is theatrical in style and remains truthful even when culminating in absurd situations. Silly and Sublime, Ethereal and Grounded, Real and Outlandish. Firth&Arjet
Always a Bridesmaid...
A wedding is the happiest day of a woman’s life. And the most stressful. It can be regretful, exhilarating, and/or traumatic. Firth&Arjet present Always a Bridesmaid…. One gets to be a bride, the other remains just a bridesmaid. These two women bring the audience into the scene, chatting and flirting and swapping secrets with their reception guests, as they discuss life, weddings, guys, and anything else that comes to mind — 100 percent made up on the spot. Wedded bliss or a wedded mess? With the audience’s help, the answer unfolds.
Tomboys
It can be tough growing up as a girl who prefers trucks over dolls, getting dirty over being pretty, and adventure over politeness. It’s a lot easier with a friend who likes that stuff just as much as you. They might get into trouble but that won’t stop them, even as they get older.
Once Upon A Time!
Jessica and Kristin create a brand new fantasy story, using fairy tale elements provided by the audience before the show. Princesses, dragons, castles, swamps, magic lamps, poisonous apples - you help guide what gets added to the tale. Will the heroes have a happily ever after or a grim demise? An audience vote before the ending will decide.
Jessica Arjet and Kristin Firth have been Firth&Arjet since January of 2007 when they began by winning a series of CageMatch shows with a half-scripted format. In 2008 they brought on Asaf Ronen as a coach and worked on character focused formats. They have appeared at festivals around the country including the Philadelphia Improv Festival, North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, New Orleans Improv Festival, Duofest, and the Chicago Improv Festival (twice). They had a regular show at the Hideout on Fridays through 2011, and since 2012 have been hosting and performing in the Free Fringe every week.
