Once a month, The Institution Theater celebrates three chosen improvisers who have birthdays that month by spotlighting them in their very own CLUSTERFUNK. Each improviser is given a 25-minute slot to fill with whatever that improviser wants to perform in. An improviser’s troupe. A fan-favorite’s show return. Or even a completely original format created by the birthday improviser.
This month's Birthday Sets will be:
RYAN HILL presents KING OF THE HILL
Relative newcomer, Ryan Hill is already in two troupes with different modus operandis, The 787s, who focus on city-specific montage scenes, and In Our Prime, who focus on long-form narrative shows. For Hill's slot in the Birthday Clusterfunk, these two different troupes will fight for his attention as they each try to pull off their distinct formats in something aptly called King of the Hill.
TYLER BOOKER presents DINGOPROV
The following should be read with an Australian accent.) With an unhinged sense of humor and the frantic energy of a coked-up puppy in a thunderstorm, There's Waldo is ready to force some improv through your eyejelly and into your brainmeat. So strap in, clusterfunkers, because it's about to get bumpy. And hairy. Probably a little wet. THAT'S LIFE IN THE OUTBACK.
SHANNON MCCORMICK presents CRUSHES
There are crushes and then there are improv crushes. Shannon McCormick has taken this opportunity to invite his improv crush, someone he admires and hasn't worked with much, to join him on stage. That person has done the same to his or her improv crush, but hasn't told Shannon who that is. That third person then did the same, and so on down the line until we ended up with six truly amazing improvisers. They'll all find out together who they're playing with the night of the show. By the end of the night, you'll have likely gained a few more improv crushes of your own from this impressive, yet secretive, line-up.
After the Birthday Clusterfunk, The Institution Theater invites everyone to stick around for an after-show party with drinks and food.
Hosted by Justin Davis (improviser, Institution Theater instructor, and June birthday boy), the theater hopes to turn the Birthday Clusterfunk into your monthly entertainment and party destination.
