Who's Goin' to Hawaii? (Improvaganza 2012)

Post by Jeff »

Confidence Men are going to Hawaii this September for Improvaganza 2012. Who else is going?

I'm pretty excited about this festival. I'm going to be in Hawaii for my first time, and I'll be there for almost two weeks!

Any other AIC folks care to chime in here that you're going to Hawaii?

Super! At Leng's party tonight I was able to talk with you and five other friends who are going to Hawaii. It looks like there are at least 14 of us coming from Austin.

I was thinking this thread could be a place where we can pool any general thoughts or plans or ideas about our trip to Hawaii. We have almost three months, so there's plenty of time to contribute here whenever.

For example, my friend who's spent a lot of time in Hawaii told me a few weeks ago that she recommends going to the island Kauai. She said there are many beautiful stretches of beaches there where you can practically have the whole place to yourself, and she said the stars at night on any island that doesn't have Honolulu are especially spectacular. So I decided I want to go to Kauai. I learned something I did not know, which is that Hawaii's waters are too rough for them to allow any boats except great big cruise liners or cargo ships. So the only way to go island-hopping is by plane. Then I saw that tickets from Maui to Kauai are between $160-$200. That was kind of an eye-opening moment, as I realized that I'm going to have to brace myself and prepare for a lot of high costs that no doubt will show up in this trip. And I also wondered if there are any cheaper tickets to Kauai. I might ask Garrick from the festival (and from the amazing silent movie improv troupe Hush!) and see if he knows some things about living cheaply there.

Me!

Yup. I'll be there with Paul, Gloria, Jessica and our entourage. :-)

They just call them "cops" there.

The LGS won't need to take a lot of clothes to do Beach Cops; maybe you could go in one of their suitcases?

Who is going when, what dates? Looks like my airline rewards points will get me there for free! I'd love to split a hotel room with someone and help out with your shows however I can!

Hit me up on here or email / facebook! This is exciting.

Also - congrats on Austin's takeover of this already reputable festival

Here's who I know is going:
The Professor: Improv Inspired By Doctor Who
Confidence Men
Local Genius Society
In Our Prime

I seriously need to get a job, because I won't be able to even make it to Hawaii for the show I created and directed if I don't!

So many Austin peeps! I'd love if we got a sweet house through air bnb or something. It seems, with enough people to go in on it, we could find something pretty nice and affordable! I'm staying for two weeks, from Sep 25 to Oct 8, so I'm thinking, if we shared a house together, we could just get it for like four or five days that include the days of the festival.

So jealous. Tell Hawaii Revlis says hi!

Marc and I rented a two person scooter, and that was fun. Much cheaper than a car, and riding around in the beautiful weather is amazing. We spent one day just driving up part of the coast and it was fantastic. You need a motorcycle license for the larger ones, but the smaller ones ("mopeds", but people in Austin would still call them scooters) you only need a car license for. We rented from this place: http://www.hawaiimoped.com/
