Memory
I'm so sorry for those that were closer to her. I didn't know Emy well, but I liked her. I didn't know she was sick, though I had a vague feeling that something wasn't great.
I had the pleasure of being in a couple of electives with her. Here's a memory that really sticks with me.
We were in Josh Gill and Lisa Jackson's "Absurd/Absurd" scenes elective. Ryan Austin was in there too among others. Emy was in a scene where the setting was suggested as "Comic Convention" or something along those lines. She improvised a character that we dubbed "Dragon Boy." He was a very nerdy boy in a dragon costume. To portray this character (who was very committed to his role of dragon), Emy put her hand vertically on her head to represent a dragon scale or horn and then sort of danced around in a nerdy way with a nerdy voice. Of course talking about it doesn't even come close, but trust me, it was hilarious.
At the end of class we were doing some exercise where we were all portraying the same character and one of the characters we did was Dragon Boy. Ten people bouncing around the room as I described. Good times.
Sorry I didn't get a chance to know her better.

Oh yeah, I caught Emy's first Maestro as well. I remember the director (Andy?) peppering her with new choice edicts. She never got phased or frustrated, just more awesome every time. With a smile.
I only met her a handful of times. Every time she was full of light and spark. It sounds like that wasn't just her around improv; that was how she lived, who she was.
My heart goes out to yours, Mia.

we're with you
I wrote this email to Emy when she was moved to hospice
Hey Emy,
I don't know if you'll have a chance to read this, but I wanted to send you a message, to let you know what you mean to me. You're an amazing person. You're strength is only matched by your kindness. Though I may have met you in the twilight of your time with us, your quirky sense of humor and love for old movies is incredibly endearing. We may never understand the battle you've been fighting, but your friends will always love and cherish the time we've spent together.
Your loving friend,
Chris

I have a few vague but very happy memories of Emy. Now I dearly wish they weren't so vague.
Our classes had a few showcases together. We did Valerie's elective together last year, and I remember chatting with her before her first Maestro (did she win that one?). She was in a really hilarious scene where Andrew Pish played her arms. I hadn't noticed before, but Andrew has pretty big arms, and paired with Emy's tiny frame, they looked GIANT. I can't even remember the rest of the scene, just that Emy gamely wandering around the stage with gorilla arms was one the highlights of the night.
I do remember her smile, clear as day. The world is a little dimmer without it.

Everyone! There will be a show in Emy's honor at the Hideout on June 16th at 6pm. If you or your troupe are interested in performing (all proceeds go to the clinic she worked at) please let me know.
mia.iseman at gmail dot com or find me on facebook.
All are invited to the show, which will sell out, and the rest of all are invited to the party, which Emy requested.
Theme to be announced. Emy's family will be in town for both events and would love to meet you all I'm sure.
Thanks for all your support and kind words on here.
