oooh, yeah, i remember Skinwalker - that was a good book! 2nd vol of 6G is at least as good as the first, imo. Not sure if i read Three Strikees - will keep an eye out for it.
definitely do. a much more grounded story, also published by Oni. sort of N&C's response to the three strikes law passed out in California. moving stuff. i'd love to see it adapted as a film. :)

I am intrigued!

Oni does good work. They are helping to sponsor STAPLE! this year! Have you seen their new logo?

a few other books I'm really digging right now:

Chew- Image. Great story, art, and the creators are super nice dudes. tried to get them out here this year but they're getting flown to Italy the same weekend!

Wasteland- Oni. a post-apocalypse drama. good stuff.

Crogan Adventures - Oni. 16 generations of the Crogan family, each volume tells the story of a different family member. Really great fun and all-ages-appropriate. Chris Schwiezer is also a great guy, and did an excellent panel at STAPLE! a couple years ago.

i've heard good stuff about Chew! haven't gotten a chance to try it yet. love what i've seen of Wasteland. got to meet Christopher Mitten when i was shooting Battleground up in Wisconsin since he was dating our key hair artist, lol. i dig the new Oni logo, though it's taking some getting used to. and when the heck are we getting some new Blue Monday? ;)

outside of mainstream stuff, i'm really loving on Scalped and The Unwritten right now. first couple of issues of Fatale have been really good too (though i've loved everything Brubaker and Phillips have put out together).

Dude. We are totally nerding out now, lol!

I am a big fan of Brubaker. His run on Daredevil with Mike Lark is pretty much the only current Marvel thing I've read in the last ten years. Ditto Gotham Central and DC. I met him at a Wizard World party in Dallas one year, and I kind of fanboyed on him a bit. I think I creeped him out a little. Would love to get him down here sometime, but have no idea how to get in touch. He seems to have retreated from the internet entirely.

Oh yeah - also been borrowing the trades of Locke and Key from a buddy, and quite like it.

I've not really followed much in the big 2 for years. Or nothing that involves capes, anyway. Some Vertigo stuff. Was reading House of Mystery - Matt Sturges lives in Round Rock and is kind of a friend - but have sort of lost track of it. Great writing though.

Northlanders is pretty kickass, imo. Fucking Vikings, man!

always dig anything in the Hellboy universe, BRPD, etc.

yeah. the geek fests tend to erupt when i'm around. ;)

LOVE Bru's stuff. his DD and Cap were/are spectacular, and his and Fraction's Iron Fist is one of my favorite books ever. and ever since Sleeper, i get tingly whenever he and Sean Phillips are working together on anything.

still into the big two on superhero books, though moreso Marvel than DC (especially these days). but yeah, i love Vertigo and Icon from the big two (Criminal, obviously, but Powers, Casanova and Kick Ass too) and more indie small press stuff too. just getting into Morning Glories, which is amazing. i've dug what i've read from Sturges on Vertigo, though haven't tried House of Mystery yet. Jack of Fables was beautifully absurd and meta, though. been meaning to try Locke and Key. dug the FCBD issue they put out, so i'm gonna give that a try at some point. and YES, i love Hellboy! i've been picking it and BPRD up in trade, though, and got WAY behind so i have no idea what's been going on. need to just go on a splurge and pick up all the volumes i've missed and marathon my way through them. ;)

have to check out that Iron Fist. sounds cool.

I read the 1st vol of Casanova and dug it, need to pick up some more. Tried to get Fraction to come out, but he is over-booked at the mo. hopefully next year.

i just picked up Infinite Kung-Fu, by Kagan McLeod (a STAPLE! guest this year). haven't read it yet, but the art is gorgeous!

maybe we should organize a graphic novel swap coming up. (for borrows, not for keepers).

still have 9 or 10 pages of my comic (That Damned Cat) to letter before STAPLE! below is one i finished recently, which was one of the most complicated I have ever had to do:

i love this idea! all my comics and trades are boxed up at the moment (hard to unpack when you don't know where you'll be in a few months, lol), but i'd bust em open for something like this. :) and i know NOTHING about Infinite Kung Fu, but it is now my new favorite title! ;)

In. Most of my stuff is alt comics stuff from Fantagraphics, D&Q, Picturebox, Sparkplug, AdHouse, and other even weirder stuff if you guys are game for that. I'd be game for some more mainstream titles.

Just picked up the two first issues of Brandon Graham's run on Prophet.

absolutely. i've been wanting a good resource for trying smaller press stuff besides Warren Ellis insulting my intelligence and genitals if i'm not reading some book or other. ;)

good lord. i am imagining some very overstuffed r/w/b spandex covered in corporate logos.

real life's been all up in my grill lately, preventing frequent forum visitation.

meanwhile i have read two graphic novels i enthusiastically recommend. both were by guests at this year's STAPLE!

Infinite Kung Fu - Kagan McLeod, Top Shelf. basically an old school kung fu movie rendered in lovely b/w brush work. 400 some odd pages but i read it in two days. just badass.

The Damned - Bunn and Hurtt, Oni. a classic noir...with demon gangsters. fun fun fun stuff. especially LOVED the dialogue - pitch perfect hardboiled writing.

hope you all are well.
