Auditions for Pocketful of Posies, THIS Sunday!

Post by ejbrammer »

Directed by: Elizabeth Brammer

About Pocketful of Posies:

Pocketful of Posies is part improvised feminist farce, part improvised New Wave film, part improvised reflection on self-expression. We’ll be using the pattern-and-game focused traditions of Chicago-style improv to tell non-linear and/or linear stories of the journeys of two female friends, unsatisfied with their social and personal situations, who have a rollicking time figuring out how to become and stay joyful in the face of expectations of what they should be. We using humor to highlight and explore political and social matters affecting women. The show will celebrate the myriad of world-building and world-breaking capabilities of improv, as well as the light and dark currents that flow through creativity, gender, and expectations.

Here are some source films and TV shows (some with clips), to get an idea of what the look and feel of the show will be:

That Obscure Object of Desire
Celine and Julie Go Boating
Black Swan
Jules and Jim
Masculin Feminin

If you haven’t seen these movies or shows, don’t worry. We’ll watch some together. If you don’t know all these types of improv, don’t worry. We’ll learn some together.

Audition Information:

We are looking to cast 9-11 men and women, with a few more women than men. Performers will be expected to be at the majority of rehearsals and shows. You will need to list your conflicts on your audition sheet. Performers will not be able to miss more than 2 shows and 2 rehearsals (with a preference for people who have no or fewer conflicts).

The first round of auditions will be Sunday April 15 from 2-4pm at the MerlinWorks Mixer, at SVT. If you come to the Mixer, you can fill out the Posies audition form there and be considered in the casting process.

The second round of auditions will be Sunday, April 29 from 12-2 at SVT. This round will be by appointment only. If you were at the Mixer and we would like to see more from you, we will invite you to attend this second round of auditions. If you are interested in being cast, but you cannot make it to the Mixer, please send me an email at ejbrammer AT gmail d o to com.

Rehearsal and Performance Dates:

Rehearsals will be Tuesday nights from 7-10pm at SVT. The first rehearsal will be May 8, and they will continue through July 24. Some early rehearsals will be exploring source materials, and we may have additional optional get-togethers continue building a base of background knowledge for the show. Once the show opens, we may have a few rehearsals, but there will likely not be rehearsals each week the show runs.

There will also be a special rehearsal the weekend of May 19 and 20.

The show opens July 27 and performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm July 27-August 18.

Questions?

If you have any questions about the show, the auditions, the rehearsal process or the run, or anything else you can think of, you can post them here, or email me.

This clip is crazy. It's the Czech movie with people speaking Russian over the top of it. Nutso.

That Obscure Object of Desire (and several other Bunuel films) and Jules and Jim (and many other Truffaut films--have you ever seen the J&J counterpart, Two English Girls? Outstanding film...) are a couple of my all-time favorite movies. It REALLY breaks my heart that I wouldn't be able to attend any more than half of the Tuesday rehearsals. I would love to audition for this show. I offer my best wishes!
