Horsey type people?!

Post by jesspasc »

I grew up riding and working with horses but I haven't been able to keep up with it in recent years and haven't found anything in Austin thus far. Are there any horsey improvisers or any who know horsey-type peoples? I would appreciate any help!

man, i haven't ridden in years...i'd love to get back in the saddle at some point. Madi Goff was an Austin improvisor whose family raises horses, but she's out in L.A. now (a town sorely lacking for horses. :p ) so i'm not sure who else in the community is into it.

i was actually doing some research on this the last time my girlfriend was in town because she wanted to go riding. we wound up not being able to, but i've got some links scattered through my e-mail and Facebook...let me go digging and see what i can find for ya!

for general equine purposes, though, my family raises miniature donkeys. you can't ride them (so please don't try, lol), but they ARE adorable. ;)

Miniature donkeys?! Where are they and when can I play with them?!

And thanks, Jordan! If you have any links or ideas of how to start looking I'd really appreciate it. What kind of riding did/do you do?

P.S.--awesome job on Battleground, I loved the first episode :)

thanks, glad you liked it! my folks' farm is out in Bastrop. once we get the pool and everything rebuilt from the fire, i'm sure i'll have another shindig out there. ;)

i did a little riding as a kid, from age 8 to 10. mostly with Cub Scouts (before i quit) and family vacations. i remember being pretty good at it at the time, but i'd probably have to relearn now. which would be pretty cool, and look damn good on a resume (i DO want to be in a Western at some point in my career. ;) ).

Hmm.  Can somebody page Madi Goff to this thread?

Think about this:  either we are the only sentient life in the universe, or we aren't.  It HAS to be one of the two possibilities.  Either one is just as insane, astounding, and humbling as the other.

I had a horse as a kid, but then grew up and moved away from all that. I got back in touch with my horsey side when I met Madi. I'll forward this to Madi, but her family's farm is "Graymar Farm".

Hiya! Thanks Sara for sending me this link.

Yeah you should call my momma, Penny.
http://www.graymarfarm.com/contact-us.html

She does lessons from time to time on her little western gelding Sherman. And if you're looking for something else, she will be able to point you in the right direction.

Let her know you're and Austin improviser. She loves ATX Imps!

There are tons of ladies out at her barn that just love to come out and hang out. I'm sure that you'd fit in super!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Ooh! I used to ride (and like you, often miss the horse contact!). I had a super sweet horse named Lucas that I rode for several years in high school/college until he passed a few years ago. I rode out at Rio Vista Farms (a mile-ish east of the airport), and occasionally showed on the weekends and whatnots. They offer boarding, lessons and things out there. http://www.riovistafarm.net/

Have also had sporadic involvement with agencies that do therapeutic horse type work (Like Spirit Reins in Liberty Hill).

Depending on what you're looking for...I also know people who know horsey people of all kinds... ;)

Lets go do something horsey! :)

Yay! Thanks for all the input, guys (even you, lamby one...)! I'll let you know how it goes--and Lacy, I'd love to go out together if you want!

I thought of you today when I was driving down Spicewood Springs. It is a beautiful calming drive I take on occasion. I never really noticed it before, but today I noticed one or two boarding/riding stables out that way. I am old and forgetful, so I can't remember the names of them, but if you ever want a nice calming drive...take Spicewood Springs north off of 360. You can kill two birds with one stone.
