Adult Question

Post by TeresaYork »

It's about health insurance, so not that exciting. No one really seems to want to explain the difference to me at work, so I turn to you, AIC!

I know they'll get me in the end anyway, but...

Can anyone say that a HMO is better than a PPO (--which is now listed as a POS in the description I have)?

My mother is a nurse and says that it can be a hassle with HMO's only because you have to clear everything with a primary care physician, but I don't anticipate seeing too many specialists all the time.

Also, the difference in price is crazy. If I want to add a significant other and have insurance for myself, the HMO plan is $250 less than the POS plan.

What's the deal? Why such a huge difference? Does it really matter in the end because I will still get screwed by the man?

Thanks.

Theresa, you don't by chance play an instrument or sing professionally on occasion, do you?

If so , look into HAAM. They're wonderful.

Outside of that. They all suck... roll the dice.

This will give you a good overview of how the insurance costs break down:

This explains the difference between HMO and PPO. It is my understanding that HMO networks are usually a little more limiting, but I am not 100% on that myself.

Just remember that if you get pregnant then you have to see more specialists.
