Grimm Tamales: The tasty plan for the Free Fringe (2/2/12)

Post by Roy Janik »

Here's the plan for tonight's Free Fringe at The Hideout at 10pm.

Tonight we've got a Noir take on fairy tales by Mike Kinald, and a delicious experiment in over-eating by Jason Vines! And of course, Firth & Arjet.

GrimmNoire

Ever wonder what Cinderella would look like if written by Dashiell Hammett?

How about if The Big Bad Wolf was looking for a “Special Package” when Red came down the path?

It’s Grimm’s Fairy Tales in the style of Film Noir.

starring: Mike Kinald, David Lampe, Jason Vines, Topping Haggerty, Halyn Lee Erickson

Tamales!
We have a large container of cooked tamales on stage.
+
We do improv scenes.
=
At least one person must be eating a tamale at all times during any given scene. Improvisers must justify why one person has their mouth full.

starring: Jason Vines, Mike Kinald, Eric Heiberg, Ann Wilson, Amy Averett, Meredith Newell, Victoria Bui, John Buseman

Firth & Arjet
A wedding is the happiest day of a woman’s life. And the most stressful. It can be regretful, exhilarating, and/or traumatic. Firth&Arjet present Always a Bridesmaid…. One gets to be a bride, the other remains just a bridesmaid. These two women bring the audience into the scene, chatting and flirting and swapping secrets with their reception guests, as they discuss life, weddings, guys, and anything else that comes to mind — 100 percent made up on the spot. Wedded bliss or a wedded mess? With the audience’s help, the answer unfolds.

Oh yeah, Courtney did that tamale thing when she was a Girl of Evil. That was funny to watch. I was sort of worried about choking watching the thing. Masa! Plus, y'all get to eat tamales!!!

Oh yay! I'm teching tonight and I was so excited to see what the formats were going to be.

P.S. @katie: I saw a Master Pancake where they had a breath-holding contest and my second-hand anxiety convinced me that they were going to kill themselves, so we'll see how this goes tonight.

Grimm Tamales is a pretty sweet troupe name.

I want to be in one of tonight's shows, and I'm willing to murder someone in the cast to take his or her place.

That's grim.

My threatening to murder someone paid off for once. I'm joining the cast of GrimmNoire tonight!

What Jon doesn't realize is that we have Hallyn in the cast of Grimm as well. We'll just hold her as "Insurance" until after the show.... (Insert evil laugh here)

No... he knows.
The silver knives are flashing in the tired old cafe. A ghost climbs on the table in a bridal negligee. She says "My body is the life; my body is the way." I raise my arm against it all and I catch the bride's bouquet.

This may have backfired.

I am an asshole. The TAMALE format was originally conceived by Courtney Salinas when IFE did their "Girls of Evil" run a while back. I regretfully did not ask Courtney to join us on stage. I didn't even tell her we were doing it. The reason? I couldn't remember which girl had come up with the idea. I should have asked around and found out, but I didn't. I would like to publicly apologize to Courtney for taking her awesome idea and presenting it without contacting her first. I made a mistake and I am truly sorry. I give Courtney full credit and offer my most sincere apology. I won't let something like this happen again.
