for all the events and excuses we make to hang out with each other, as individual theatres and as a community, what's so wrong with saying to another theatre "hey, you're pretty cool and we'd like to get to know you better. let's hang out!"? seriously, what's the down side? no one from that theatre shows up and we're forced to just hang out with awesome improvisors from every other theatre in town? what atrocities have we committed to deserve such a wicked punishment? even if it's not an organized specific TNM mixer type event, just putting a hand out there and letting them know about such mixers/minglers/jams/parties/etc. and that they are welcome is not a bad thing. it is, in fact, a GREAT thing and one of the fundamental reasons Austin improv is so uniquely wonderful in this country.KathyRose wrote:Setting up a special event just for TNM people is a social booby-trap. Is it a "test" to see how they will respond? (It could be taken that way.) I can just see it blowing up in someone's face. (Not that that wouldn't be fun to watch.) Let sleeping dogs lay.Rev. Might I suggest Narwhal at 9 pm on Friday? (and then consider coming back on 2/17 to see Mark and I as Opposites)happywaffle wrote:Ruby, which show are you going to? I wanna come.
But really, whatever fits your schedule of course. I probably shouldn't self-promote here in this thread...
Much love to everybody!

whoa.
let me clarify that i was just yes anding ruby's suggestion. i didn't have judgment on the agenda. frankly, i'm hungry to play with the people from TNM since they come from the same improv lineage and i like playing with new people.
i've thought of going over for the shoot-around, but wasn't sure i would be welcomed, hence the suggestion.
i don't want to revisit the he said, she said of this whole backstory, just want to clarify my intentions.

I can't believe I forgot about Opposites. You two are hilarious. Great concept.Pdyx wrote:Might I suggest Narwhal at 9 pm on Friday? (and then consider coming back on 2/17 to see Mark and I as Opposites)happywaffle wrote:Ruby, which show are you going to? I wanna come.

Oh, hey guys.
My name's Aaron, I'm from TNM, and I think that this thread is kind of hilarious, but everybody saying nice things is really nice. It warms the cockles of my heart. Improv Wins wasn't adverstised as well as it could have been, but Mark made a good point as to why that was the case. TNM operates differently than other theaters, everyone knows that, so I won't beat a dead horse (unless there's an actual dead horse to beat, in which case count me in).
For anybody who doubts, let me guarantee you that everybody is welcome to everything all the time. Come to the shoostarooz, come to shows, whatever. We love to play and have fun just like everybody else. Everybody everywhere is supportive. If they're not then we should kill them.
I've had the honor of playing with some great people in the Steampunk show, and I love everyone I've been working with. I also work with some of youz guyz with Dinner Detective, and everyone is awesome there as well.
I'll make a certain effort to make it out to/inform TNMers of the next mixer as long as there's ham sandwiches. Who am I kidding, I bring an emergency sandwich with me wherever I go.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. You know, honestly, I didn't feel particularly good about that show, so it's nice to hear that.trabka wrote:That show where Mark (99% sure it was Mark) played a snail was easily one of my favorite shows that I saw last year.
