Austin Improv Same Year's Eve 2011 Show/Party!!

Post by Roy Janik »

The Austin Improv community's "Same Year's Eve" Show/Party!

is happening @ the Hideout Theatre...

...and YOU are invited to perform in it.

For those who don't know, "Same Year's Eve" is the BEST show of the year. BEST because the Austin Improv community is all in one spot -- on stage at almost the same time -- even when we try to break into groups.

It's a bit of a mess artistically speaking, BUT! as a community event, it is awesome.

It also ends up being a fun reunion with all the Austin ex-pats coming home to join in the show.

It's a huge cast -- essentially a 2 hour improv jam-show broken into three (35-40 min) acts:
Act 1 = shortform games (8:00-8:35pm)
Act 2 = montage scenes (8:40-9:15pm)
Act 3 = musical narrative (9:20-10:00pm)

If you want to play in the show, you show up at 7pm to grab a number out of the hat. Based on the number you draw, you are divided into one of the three sets. The groups then break out to practice and warm up.

It's our hope that this will all work like it has in the past. However, the scene continues to grow. If we have an INSANE turnout, we may have to limit the number of cast via a lottery system. To that end, we're asking that you show up by no later than 7:15pm.

There will be mixing and mingling afterwards, with potluck treats, music & dancing, a live performance of Manateeman's Wizard Album, beer from Orf Brewing, and there's always a final count-down-to-Midnight to ring in the "Same Year" with too many toasts.

All this goes down on Dec. 30th at The Hideout. All students, improvisers, past or present, from any of the theaters (or from anywhere) are invite to perform.

Spread the word.

Oh, and you don't need to buy a ticket to perform, but help get us an audience by sharing this link:

The coolest cats close down the party- and you can't really close down the party unless you are on the cleaning crew!

We need about 10 of you party animals to help out after the rest of the crowd goes home. Sign up here: http://forum.austinimprov.com/viewtopic ... highlight=

I don't knooooow. At least I'm not the only first-timer (thanks Deano).

Actual question: so it's free for improvisers who want to play, but tickets are sold for regular audience members, right? So how many improvisers tend to perform? And where do they sit when not onstage? Or does everyone cram the wings for the entire time? Or are seats set aside for them?

It depends. If the show sells out, improvisers often watch from the entryway or just go upstairs and start drinking. Each set will have so many people on stage that there's no room for improvisers from the other sets.
