Fancy Pants! - Dec. 2nd.
Upcoming casting calls, auditions, and tryouts.
Moderators: arclight, happywaffle, bradisntclever
I have to say that Fancy Pants is not a "beginner" show. People pay to see you and you should give them the best show possible. Stop pretending that this is a student showcase... Every one of these I've played has been full of fun and solid (sometimes) scenework. THAT is what you should take out of this show... AND have fun...

indeed...Friday night at 8pm? you're in a prime time main stage slot. everyone who takes that stage belongs there, and should see themselves and each other as such.Chuy! wrote:I have to say that Fancy Pants is not a "beginner" show. you're only not ready so long as you THINK you're not ready. that's what makes Fancy Pants so wonderful...it's incredibly low pressure and all about the playful. trust yourself, trust your partner, trust your director. all will be well.Jolene wrote:Well I feel alright in my decision then to not be in the show yet. I wasn't ready for it. I think I will be next month though.

I had never seen it before last night. I am pretty excited to do it next month if I get picked. Hopefully between then and now I'll learn more, and become more confident.Rev. Jordan T. Interesting
Hrm...argue with Chuy and Jordan about this? Um...yeah I think I'll pass.
And yes, I get your point about it not being a beginner show.
However, it was the first performance other than student shows I ever did, and I think the same for many other folks.
And what I think I meant was that it's a good environment to cut your teeth in.
So there, you big, mean, experienced improvisers.
(Both of whom I love and respect and both of whom have been immensely helpful to me...)

To sum up:
If by "beginner show" you mean it's a venue for improv noobs to dork around onstage, be unprofessional, and have low expectations for themselves, no. It's not.
If by "beginner show" you mean it's the first exposure a lot of students get to being onstage in front of paying audience members, yes. It is.

I'm just curious here....do you see a lot of "noobs" dorking around, bring unprofessional, and having low expectations? Because all I've seen, or been around is people caring about what they are doing, and taking it as seriously as they can. That includes new students. I think your reference to "noobs" is insulting and rude, and it's people like you that make "noobs" uncomfortable, and unsure about themselves. Jus' sayin...happywaffle wrote:To sum up:

I'm not tryin' to start a fight here—I used the word "noobs" very deliberately there as an example of what this show is NOT. That's what Chuy meant to say as well. We just don't want people treating the show casually. For 99% of improvisers, that's not a concern.Jolene wrote:I'm just curious here....do you see a lot of "noobs" dorking around, bring unprofessional, and having low expectations? I agree with you completely, and in fact some of my favorite imps to watch onstage are also some of our newest family members.

I understand. I just didn't like the way you said it. All is well.
