Under the direction and guidance of Esther's Follies Musical Director and former Second City Chicago Touring Company Musical Director, Doug Ewart, students will learn to improvise songs using song structures, and then by creating their own structures as they go along. You will also explore the use of music and musical theater genre elements in improvised scenes. By learning to work with and create their own rhythms and patterns, students will gain skills that they can apply to all forms of Improv.

This class will meet for four weeks but you don't have to commit to four weeks of classes! We are offering this class on a week by week basis. So you can come to all four classes or just come to one class and check it out! It's your choice! You decide! I can't make that decision for you!

And this class if for anyone and everyone regardless of your improv musical experience! So stop by, learn a little something about musical improv and have a lot of fun!

The Doug Ewart Weekly Drop In Musical Workshop is going to be offered on Saturday afternoons from 3 pm to 5:30 at The Institution Theater (3708 Woodbury Dr.) on Nov. 12th, Nov. 19th, Dec. 3rd and Dec. 10th. Each individual class cost $20 for regular people but since you're an Institution Theater student, it's ONLY $15 per class for you! (Use Discount Code InstitutionStudent)

DOUG EWART has been playing music for comedy since he was a kid. He has directed music for Second City's international touring companies, The West End Comedy Theatre (Dallas), Lonestar Comedy, Comedysportz and Queertown and is currently the musical director of Austin's legendary Esther's Follies. Doug has performed live with such talents as John Goodman, John Lovitz, and Steven Colbert as well as Improv Olympics' The Reckoning and numerous improv and sketch troupes throughout the United States. Doug was also the owner/operator of The West End Comedy Theatre and produced the 2005 Dallas Comedy Festival.
