Would someone who's been around since the dawn of the AIC be willing to offer up an explanation of the history and intent of "Love notes".

How the whole Love notes thing works is as follows:

-At every potluck, there's been a love notes station. The station usually has a bunch of writing implements, a lot of index cards or index card-sized sheets of paper, some manilla envelopes, and some device (usually strings and clothespins) used to mount the envelopes.

-Improvisers write their name on a manilla envelope and hang it up using a clothespin.

-Throughout the evening, people can come write notes to the improvisers and place them in their envelopes. Notes can either be totally anonymous or, if you'd prefer, signed. The intent is to tell the improviser something you appreciate about her or him.

-At the end of the night, people claim their packets. If someone has to leave super early, they usually leave their packet behind and it winds up at a theater for a week or two, waiting to be claimed. Ideally, we'd like to cut down on that process because people tend to forget to come claim those packets.

The love notes are my most favorite part of the whole AIC Potluck experience. I still have every single one that I've gotten over the years. They are the BEST!

I'm bringing wine, by the way. Red and white.

Since there are more and more people to appreciate every year, writing love notes can end up taking up most of the evening of a dedicated appreciator. Some people like to write up love notes ahead of time and then spend time at the potluck socializing. Feel free to do this!
