Actually, another point to add to Trabka's: Depending on the intent and origin of the spammer, replying to the thread can be a sign of "success" for their tracking (if they are indeed tracking). Spammers often target innocuous websites to test new methodologies before pushing that sweet, precious viagra. So as fun as it is (I've been guilty myself) it's possible that responding to the spam posts may be encouraging more.
