Where Should We Do the September Austin Improv Happy Hour?

Post by acrouch »

We're trying to find a fun venue for the September happy hour (tentatively scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, September 13).

Any suggestions for places that meet the following criteria:
  • -Open until 2am
-Possibly willing to hook us up with a drink special for the night
-Serves a wide variety of alcohol (not just wine/beer)
-Room for 30-70 people to hang out
    -Reasonably central
Whatcha got?

I love The Nomad. And Tuesdays are their $2 pint nights.

Nomad is awesome, but I don't think it's very central.

For Central, my friend opened up 'Skinny's Ballroom' not too long ago: http://skinnysballroom.com/. They'd love the business and they meet all the criteria above. Tuesdays is Karaoke night, typically.

For Central East...maybe someplace like Hotel Vegas (Volstead Lounge) or Violet Crown Social Club - neither of which have decent websites, but both of which have decent laid back atmospheres and cheap prices.

What's the parking situation going to be like at Skinny's Ballroom in September?

I vote for the Violet Crown. Huge space both indoors and outside, great drink prices, nice bartenders, and near a ton of food trucks. They let you bring food in too. Hell, I'd even suggest this place for an OoB night if those aren't all booked up already.

I second this. Violet Crown rocks.
The silver knives are flashing in the tired old cafe. A ghost climbs on the table in a bridal negligee. She says "My body is the life; my body is the way." I raise my arm against it all and I catch the bride's bouquet.
