Who knows College Station?

Post by mpbrockman »

A friend of mine from Kerry, Ireland is moving there for 5 months to work in a lab at A&M. She's a 26 year-old microbiologist and doesn't really want to live on campus or be stuck with a bunch of partying-all-night undergrads. She'd like to be within walking or biking distance of campus and maybe near some nice shops or hangouts.

Not knowing the area well, I haven't a clue what to tell her. Anybody have any input on where she might look? A useful search engine?

Better yet, anybody know someone up that way looking for a roommate for the remainder of the year?

Seriously? Nobody?

I've researched some things online and sent them to her myself, but I was hoping somebody out there could give me a more personal recommendation concerning desirable areas etc.

I'll ask PyroDan. He went to school there and still has strong connections with Freudian Slip.

Hey I haven't introduced myself on the forums but my names Zach, I just signed up for Andys level 2 at the hideout. I'm living in College Station while my girlfriend goes to school here and commute to Austin on the weekends. We live in a great non-frat party place within biking distance called Laurel Ridge Apartments and the property owner has a few other under the name Aspen Square Apartments, but theres tons of apartment complexes around the school.

I don't know anyone looking for a roommate but I'll ask around. Also theres a free bus in town that can get her to A&M from most anywhere.

As far as cool shops and hangouts, they are few and far between. Theres Northgate for bars right across the street from the school and downtown bryan which is like 10 minutes away. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Sorry I don't know much else to say about it, it's kind of a drag here.

Thank you, Zach.

I've passed the info (minus the bit about it being a drag) on to Hazel. Much appreciated. Especially the bit about the free bus.

She's really excited about coming to the U.S., so I didn't want to burst her bubble by telling her it was boring there. Besides, I think she's coming from a farm in Kerry, so College Station may well be quite exotic to her.
