Please welcome Gnap! Theater Projects newest company members

Post by shando »

Not really an introduction per se, but I wanted to announce that Gnap! Theater Projects has added three new company members. I am super excited to announce Liz Brammer, Michael Thomas, and Clay Towery have joined the Gnap! ensemble.

Liz comes to us with considerable improv, sketch, and other stage experience, through ColdTowne, the Hideout, and most recently THREE back to back Gnap! shows (Showdown, False Matters, and currently the 2011 69 Love Scenes)

Michael Thomas has been doing Gnap! shows for a long time now (both iterations of Dusk, Apocalypse, and now 90210) and helping with video production and other aspects of our shows for a couple years, and now that relationship is completely official.

Clay Towery has been a Merlin Works student for the past couple of years, recently graduating from 601 with the crew that did Doctors Without Boundaries. He's also appeared in the 2010 version of Guilds of Steel and Showdown, and is currently working with Sara Farr's Puppet Improv Project. Clay also has a long history of doing stage work, including this fun fact--he was in the very first Gnap! show aside from No Shame way back in December 2001, almost 10 years ago, when we mounted a production of Jeff Goode's reindeer play, The Eight.

WELCOME!... people I already know... to a place that's not mine.

Seriously, though, congrats to all of you and hooray for progress.

Awesome! Congratulations to Gnap! and to these three cuties.

Just out of curiosity, what does official company membership entail?

Thanks for asking Val--Gnap company members get to pitch and direct our prime time shows--that's the key aspect. In exchange there are hosting duties, and other aspects include coaching opportunities, some inner track knowledge about some casting decisions like the Derby, social functions, things like that.

Membership is predicated on some mystical alloy of a) innate leadership skills, b) a feel for our still nascent aesthetic, c) charisma and intra-company likeability and d) a willingness to make Gnap shows something of a personal priority in a crowded improv landscape. Oh, and having some extra-improvisational skills like writing, acting, videography, design, etc. is often part of what we're looking for.

thanks shannon- that's very cool. I'm always interested to see how different theatres and companies organize themselves.
