ACTING CLASSES

TWO CHAIRS STUDIO

1704 East 6th Street, presents

Three nights of free classes with Van Brooks:

This THURSDAY, January 5th, and

next MONDAY & TUESDAY, January 9th & 10th

Each class is held 7:00 - 10:00pm

Contact: vanarama@earthlink.net (512)203-9240

If you've never worked with Van before and want to check

out his approach to the craft of acting, here's your chance

to not just audit, but participate in a class (although it's okay to just come and watch if you want).

Pick ONE night, preferably bring in a monologue to work

on, or do a cold reading. Van's new classes start soon, so here's an opportunity to be part of the process and see if you want to go farther.

Below is a resume of some of Van's work as a teacher:

VAN BROOKS is an actor/teacher/director/photographer

with 30 years of experience in the business. He has been fortunate to work with some of the best people in film, including

Oscar* winners Joel and Ethan Coen, Frances McDormand,

Marissa Tomei, and Ben Johnson. He has also worked with Tony* and

Obie* winners Mary-Louise Parker and Christopher Durang, Kelly Lynch, Rip Torn, Lou Diamond Phillips, Willie Nelson, Lesley-Anne Warren, and many others (Okay, enough with the name dropping).

He has taught classes and led workshops all over North America, including New York (where he was the General Manager of the

Actors Institute), Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Toronto, Seattle (as Artistic Director of the Seattle Actors Lab), Dallas, Houston, and Austin. He has written and directed three short films and is working on several projects here in Austin for the winter and spring.

WINTER CLASS SESSION:

At Two Chairs Studio, 1704 East Sixth Street

All classes are held from 7:00pm-10:30pm

and meet once a week for ten weeks. Payment

plans are available to anyone who's commited

to the work. The cost for each session is $300.

COMMUNICATION-COMMITMENT-CREATIVITY

Tuesdays January 17th-March 21st Limit 12

This is a new class ONLY for those who have taken the

MASTERY workshop with Van. We'll take everything we

worked on in the weekend and put it into a weekly

class situation. All the challenges, all the risks, all

the vulnerability, all the rewards. And this time, we've

ot the camera.

ACTING FROM THE HEART

Wednesdays January 18th-March 22nd Limit 12

Yes, we'll work on character development, and script analysis, and how to work with the camera. But none of that really matters unless you know how to work from the heart, to be genuine and sincere, to be connected and open. To be a great actor you have to be willing to reveal all that great stuff that's already in you, and let the character come alive through you. A creative and challenging ten weeks, it requires a strong commitment and a willingness to believe in yourself. Lots of scenework, all of it videotaped and viewed in class.

AUDITION INTENSIVE

Thursdays January 19th-March 23rd Limit 12

So you work hard in class, but does it translate into booking the job? The audition situation has such a charge to it, and so much information to understand, and then you go into the room and there they are: the people who are going to judge you (that's their job). And all the expectations you bring with you. In this class, we'll go non stop for ten weeks with all the information you need (like what each Austin casting director is looking for), how to prepare for any situation, why you need monologues if you're a film actor, and, most of all, lots and lots of practice. You'll be on camera every week, with an occasional guest from the Austin film scene to help and inform you. And, along the

way, how to market yourself and how to really come alive in front of the

camera.

The MASTERY $250

Friday, Saturday, Sunday February 10th, 11th, 12th Limit 20

This is a weekend to see yourself as others see you. To work on your communication, your creativity, passion, joy, and love for the craft. You'll get a whole new look at what it means to be commited, and why and how that will take your work to a whole other place. Hundreds

and hundreds of people in Austin have done the MASTERY, and the results, while always very personal, are all similar: a renewed sense of self and the desire to go back into the world and get more of what they want. And the tools they need to do it.
