What about teenagers?
At least, everyone I knew had a pair of chucks when I was in HS. All the cool people, anyway.

This is a photo I just took of a pastel my mother made from a photo that she took when I was in high school. It's a pile of my and all my friends' shoes by our front door.

This is hanging on the wall of my apartment.
The silver knives are flashing in the tired old cafe. A ghost climbs on the table in a bridal negligee. She says "My body is the life; my body is the way." I raise my arm against it all and I catch the bride's bouquet.

(I don't think I started wearing them until I was into my 30s.  This probably says nothing good about me.)
