Gagarazzi Benefit Looking For Improv Comedy Acts

Post by kaci_beeler »

This comes from my friend Haylan Teel. She asked me if GEWT or one of my groups could perform on this date at this benefit (Sept. 30th), but I'm going to be out of town, sadly.
This benefit sounds so amazing and worthwhile, though, and I think someone from the Austin Improv Community should do something!

---

I would be very excited if you'd pass it on! We would really like it if some improv/comedy folks were interested because it would really spice up the variety of the show!

My partner and I are currently looking for acts to participate in a benefit for Equality Texas taking place at The Highball on Friday, Sept 30, 2011. It is designed to be a Lady Gaga themed burlesque and variety show titled Gagarazzi. We are looking for acts of all kinds; we love burlesque, comedy, drag queens, kings, dancers, ANYTHING! Other than the acts and entertainment, we have many extras planned; a very unique raffle, costume contests, photo booth and more. We have had quite a bit of interest in the idea from participants and patrons alike, and feel it will have a large turnout. We are already sealed with Equality Texas for their participation and they plan to be present for the event. As this is a charity benefit there are no funds to pay troupes, entertainers and donors; it will all be on a volunteer basis as it will help maximize our funds going to Equality Texas. We would be very excited if you would be interested in participating in our event. Please read more details below and contact us with any questions or interest you may have in being part of our show.

Our Mission:
We feel at this time, with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered inequality still being a prominent issue as well as the rash of recent suicides by youth all across the country, it’s highly important to raise awareness and funds for this cause and local organization. Our inspiration is Lady Gaga, who was named the most charitable celebrity of 2010 for her LGBT support and Haiti Relief and has fought diligently for the disenfranchised through political rallies, charities and monetary support. She donates $20,000 per tour date (over 200 stops on her recent tour alone) to help LGBT youths that have been kicked out by their parents becoming homeless. These acts as well as her activism to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell have inspired us to do what we can for this important fight as well. We know this is an important cause for lots of people in Austin, especially in the type of culture this show will draw in, both in participants and audience members. We hope you feel the same in wanting to participate and bring awareness and funds to this important cause, and enjoy the theatrics of Gaga enough to be part of this show dedicated to such a powerful artist.

Gagarazzi in Detail:
Gagarazzi is designed to be a fully engrossing entertainment, engaging the audience with a full sensory experience. The audience will be encouraged to dress up in costumes, participate in contests for fabulous prizes, and enjoy a raffle of extremely unique Gaga-related art and other items. We have some interested vendors that may offer drink, food, gifts etc, as well as a photographer already committed to providing a photo booth.
We are part of a film making co-op, Homespun Horror, who is taking it under their wings to produce excellent pre-show videos; both original and Gaga-official, to project on a large screen as an interesting starter for the show, to get the early arrivals into spirit. The raffle, where all proceeds go to Equality Texas, is made up of local artists and businesses who are donating Gaga inspired creations of all kinds; original paintings, jewelry, a hand crafted Gaga Barbie, couture tea cups, even a Gaga themed hand-made soap basket by a local soap company amongst many others. The photo booth will allow people to remember the night by taking professional quality photographs in front of a backdrop before, during and after the show. The acts will vary from Burlesque troupes, musicians, dancers, comedy acts to Drag Queens and Kings. Several Austin-centric organizations and businesses are interested in attending as well; the night will bring in great creative talents from all around Austin for a good cause and a great time.

About Equality Texas:
Equality Texas is the only nonpartisan statewide political advocacy organization lobbying the Texas Legislature for the elimination of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. They also conduct research and educate Texans about policies and their effect on Texans of all sexual orientations and genders, serving to educate and empower Texans on equality issues. http://www.equalitytexas.org/

Please let us know if you are interested in working with us for event. We are welcome to many ideas and are happy to encourage creativity, so we do not want to limit any acts you may have or ideas you want to pursue for this; just that it’s Lady Gaga themed, inspired or related. We look forward to hearing from you and hope to have with us at The Highball!

Uhm, my troupe, The3$Bills (the all-queer improv troupe) could probably do this? I can run it by the rest of them.
