Thursday night The Dukes of Bedside Manor are gonna destroy the threefer like a rockstar destroys a hotel room. Not really, puppets calm us down. And so does Drew Wesely of Achatina Achatina who are both performing along with us.
I'm employing bad metaphors because we seek inspiration in music this week. We are searching for the community's favorite concept album. The three lead dogs from facebook are Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea", The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" and Pink Floyd's "Darkside of the Moon".
My personal favorite is Van Morrison's "Astral Weeks". I think it's one of the all-time greats. Go find it. Listen to it. Revel in its Arc!!
Tell me your favorite, weigh in on the four above, and then tell me why you feel like that? Tell me if you remember where you first heard your favorite. Tell me who was "You" in "The King of Carrot Flowers" when you first heard it. Is that still the person you think of when you hear it?
Make this sweet with me. We will decide the album tonight, but I want to hear your experience with it, too.

incredible songs. also one of the first concept albums to heavily incorporate narrative, and laid a lot of ground work for the rock opera/concept album hybrid to follow. also wonderfully and modernly subversive of the hero/messianic story cycle...crippled kid becomes pinball champion becomes celebrity becomes savior becomes pariah.Sully wrote:Why? Tell me more.Rev. Jordan T. Maxwell wrote:Tommy by the Who
in more modern fare, i never dug Green Day until American Idiot (and 21st Century Breakdown). and the notion of a punk concept album still tickles me.

Sweetness Prevails.

I think the verdict is in! Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane over the Sea album. I'm sure Erik Adams will be happy we chose this. The title track of this album was also played at Roy & Kaci's wedding.
