uploading a picture

Post by michaelmcgeary »

i tried to move a pic from 'my documents' to be my picture on my posts but no go-how do I do this?

Post by Spaztique »

Image hosting! Just go to imageshack.us and upload your picture. Copy the image's address provided in the "direct link to image" box, go back to the forum, and past it into [img] tags, which should look like [img]www.whereverthehelltheimageis.imagefilename[/img].

You can also link to images by putting [url] tags before the [img] tags. For my signature, it looks like this: [url=http://spaztique777.livejournal.com/][img]http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/3512 ... logsig.jpg[/img][/url]

Michael,

I assume you're trying to update your profile picture.

First off, your image has to be the right size... no more than 100x100 px and less the 32kb. If this is gibberish to you, email me the image you want to use and I'll trim it down for you. My email address is roy@HideoutTheatre.com

Secondly, here's a video showing you the upload process:

Hopefully, your computer can view that.

Okay, take 2.

Your profile picture has been uploaded here:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5169/538 ... 2a3a_o.jpg

All you have to do is:

1. click on the "profile link"
2. put that in the "Upload Avatar from a URL" text box
3. Click submit.

Or, alternately, maybe Brad can do it for you if he sees this.

Step by step instructions

Post by Katherine »

I followed the advice above to use imageshack.us and Roy's advice about siing. After some trial and error, I got it to work. For the non-techies out there (myself included), here are step by ste instructions.

1. Go to imageshack.us
2. You will see the option to upload a picture without registering, but if you do that, you won't be able to see it, so go ahead and register.
3. Click to the Media Upload page. Click browse to find the picture you want from your computer.
4. For image resize, select 100x75 (avatar). **[see note below.]
5. Click Upload Now. Wait a minute or so...
6. When uploading is complete, click to My Images. You should see your picture along with several addresses that you can use.
7. I copied the address called "Direct Link." (I tried others, including one that seemed obvious called "Forums Address," but the AIC forum wouldn't accept that address style. The first style I got AIC forum to accept was the "Direct Link" address.)
8. On your AIC Profile page at the very bottom, past the "Direct Link" address into the "Link to off site avatar" bar; click submit.
That should do it!

**The sizing step is important! I didn't notice it the first time through. I had no clue anything was out of place until I successfully uploaded a FREAKISHLY LARGE 8'x10' glossy picture of myself onto the forum. I checked an old posting of mine to confirm that the new picture had been put in its proper place and was greeted by a picture that nearly filled the screen of my computer. It was a bit jarring. ...Although AIC says it won't accept avatars larger than 100X100, that didn't seem to stop the gigantic picture from being uploaded.

Hope this helps!

I have read all of these posts about uploading a picture, and it all seems like so much work. I have a picture to use, but it is too big. Can anyone resize it for me if I send it to them? I'm SO new here.

that little upper right hand box of the post that says "quote" should do the trick.
