Re: I figured out my main problem..would like some help plea
Maybe the two people on stage don't agree on what the game is and need a third person to come in and help frame or label it.
That reminds me of a warmup we do, whose name I don't recall. One person steps out and makes a descriptive statement, for instance "A small child playing in the front yard ...

Sweet! Plus all the other things you mentioned!
Thanks! It's interesting... the main local improv teacher I've had (who is great!) is dyslexic, and taught gibberish from that perspective. There was a lot of focus on gibberish ...

- Take a class beyond 101
- Learn and play some long form
- Form a practice group
- See some improv in NYC

Re: Signed up for an intensive! Yay! Eek!
Thanks! I'm hoping to blog about the intensive, assuming I can get Wordpress to behave. Grrr!
It's funny that the stuff that gives me angst and yet pushes me forward is just improv writ large: Say yes! Heighten! Commit! I can do that stuff in scenes, but saying yes to improv originally was scary ...

Re: Signed up for an intensive! Yay! Eek!
You mentioned the end of June. So it's coming up?
The end of June was when I knew my (probable) final chance to do some improv until the intensive was going to be. That was my latest class show, which was last night, and we kicked ass! :)
I've taken the 101 level with this troupe 5 times ...

Signed up for an intensive! Yay! Eek!
So, the stars aligned and I signed up for an improv intensive. 3 weeks. In New York City. I live in suburban New Jersey, and I've pretty much only studied with a local troupe, and I've got their session of Improv Foundations under my belt (all 5 times I've taken it) and a short-term La Ronde project ...

These were both really useful articles, thanks! This is where I feel like I am right now, stuck in suck, trapped in my head. Bleah.

Re: Good games/exercises/warmups for 3?
I hope Jill Bernard will jump in and explain the exercise where two people are doing a scene and one person has a wingman/supporter.
I will confess to getting a little giddy when I see Jill respond to my posts.... :)
Also, these are good suggestions, thanks! Now we just have to get all three of ...

Good games/exercises/warmups for 3?
I'm slooooowly working on putting a practice group together (with the goal of being a troupe someday), and right now we have 3 enthusiastic people and are running with that. We get along well, we like each other's styles, we play well together.
However, our (not vast) experience is with much larger ...

Re: Useful random interval timer for solo practice
This is so awesome! I've wanted something like this for a long time. Thanks for planting that seed in a fertile brain!
My pleasure! I made use of the app this afternoon to do a quick 5 minute series of 30-second character monologues. I started with one of my "stock" characters, and each time ...

Useful random interval timer for solo practice
I went in search of an iPhone app that would work as a random interval timer to work on some solo improv exercises, specifically some of the character work from the exercises in the back of Mick Napier's book. The web community I asked my question of hadn't heard of such a thing (though one person ...

Re: How has improv brought you joy recently?
Started La Ronde rehearsals tonight. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! I feel giddy and energetic and excited about improv. I'm always excited about improv, but this was special excitement. I could spend 2 hours EVERY night doing that!

Eager for an audience, nervous and shy about solo practice?
Okay, so I need to practice on my own. Something. ANYTHING. I'm in between classes right now, and I have a whole week until rehearsals start for the new thing I'm doing and I'm jonesin' for improv.
But as not nervous as I generally am to get up in front of an audience, I feel weird and awkward and ...
