Looking to hire film production people!

Yo, I've got some bizness needs. I'd love your help!

(1) Do you know anyone who does paid video production and could film /produce a 30 sec. trailer for a small company in Austin? Small-ish budget, probably 1 day shoot. Maybe even... you?

(2) Do you know of any superfly Austin film/production ...

Hi, I need to find someone to hire to put up posters in San Antonio.

Whoa yeah. Kurosawa sounds awesome. Some bold ideas up in thar schedule

Re: UT Long-Form Troupe

The troupe is set!

We're a troupe of 10 but each week we will bring on a feature player to play with us (similar to SNL). We want improvisers from all over Austin to join us in making a great show each week. The feature player also has the opportunity during practice the week of the show to design ...

Re: Austin School Styles

Just see some shows at (and take the free class at) the theaters you're interested in, then chat up the performers (teacher) afterwards. That's the best way. ColdTowne and TNM esp, given what you wrote.

OOB 2013 Workshops

Will there be workshops at this year's Out of Bounds? The fact that there is no "Workshops" section of the website is downright WORRISOME.

Re: Greetings!

You should go to the various theaters, watch their shows, and try a free class. That'll give you some idea.

ColdTowne and The Hideout both do significant character work throughout levels 1-4, esp. 2 and 3. Character work is foundational to long-form; you can't not do it.

Re: Greetings!

Yo, welcome. There are five places that teach improv in Austin. Of those five, I can speak to the two training programs I've gone through:

ColdTowne theater on Airport blvd teaches Chicago-style long-form improv. They teach The Harold, and the canonical "textbook" is Truth in Comedy, by Charna ...

Re: hard work

For a long time I had this impression that trying doesn't work in improv, and I tried to not try, and that was making me miserable and sucking a lot of the fun out of it.

So anyway, I'm finding what I was looking for! Finding it in goal-setting before shows, and rehearsals with skill drills, and ...

Re: Peer Approval and/or Audience Approval? Who to believe?

There are some exceptions, but I think a relatively sober, reasonably intelligent and literate audience is in the best position to judge the quality of the show... The mob rules.

Re: hard work

I'm not explaining myself adequately. I don't want to rehearse ten hours a week (the real comparison would be 15-20+). What I want is to be gasping for breath, high as a kite, and about to burst into tears at the end of every show.

Yes, you should try to find improvisers who share that desire ...
