Slogan/Motto/Branding Ideas

Post by phlounderphil »

Following Wes's fantastic (or fanatic) lead, I've decided to throw a post up on this forum asking for any ideas as to possible Austin Improv Community slogans, mottos, logos, or branding ideas. Keep in mind, at this point this is more of a "testing the waters" sort of probe. It would be good to know exactly WHAT the different members of the austin improv community what to say with our logo/motto, etc.

Any ideas posted into this forum will then be compiled into a list by me for use at future advertising committee meetings. It's clear that a logo/motto is one of the most pressing matters in the community right now and eventually this sort of thing should be plastered all over town in the form of stickers, fliers, buttons, bumper stickers, and t-shirts.

Let's get the ideas flowing. READY, SET, GO!

P.S. The logo/motto should reflect the goals of the community, which I currently do not have written down, but as soon as valerie gets them to me, then I'll throw those up on here too.

AIC Slogans off the top of my head:

Improv is Everywhere
You Can't Stop Improvising
We're Making This Shit Up
AIC: Making Austin Even Wierder
Making Austin Weirder by the Moment
What's Going to Happen Next?

I'd actually like to avoid any connection to the "Keep Austin Weird" thing, if possible. Not really sure why, but I have a knee-jerk "ugh" reaction to it.

The Revolution Will Be Improvised.

I kinda like it for a few reasons. Quite a few of us have been saying that there will be, or there needs to be, an improv revolution. And this implies "oh, it's coming. you can't stop it. Better get used to the idea and enjoy it." Plus it's a little ambiguous, enough to make people stop and think about what the hell we could possibly be talking about.

1. i first learned improv from one of the mainstage players in washington improv theater. just a fun fact.

2. i don't have a motto in mind yet but i have some thoughts on what i would like for it to bring to mind:

- an open community (something without saying "we" because that sounds exclusive)
- the idea that it is a home base and that there are improv groups that are subsets of austin improv (or whatever it will be called)

maybe this will put a lightbulb over somebody's head.

If we choose THE REVOLUTION WILL BE IMPROVISED ... let's make sure we familiarize ourselves with Gil Scott-Heron. Why? Cause he is the person who coined the oft-imitated phrase ... The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.

I really like "Austin Improv: It Just Happened"

I made a long list of possibilities the other night, and it's funny because some of these are very similar to the ones on my list.

- Austin Improv: The Revolution
- "Because We Just Made It Up!"
- Keep Austin Improvised!
- Try Hard to Make It Look Easy
- Austin Improv: May I Have Your Suggestion Please?
- Austin Improv: Governor Rick Perry is Gay!
- Who Made This Mess in My Improv?
- Improvisers Do It From Nothing
- Austin Improv: Vote for Kinky Friedman.
- Did You Know that You're an Improviser?
or just
- You're an Improviser.
- Austin Improv: We Put the "HumOr" in "Human Organism"
- Austin Improv t0+a1ly rox0rz!
- Improv: Reality Theatre
- Austin Improv: One Big Family
- One Stage. Infinite Realities.
- Charlie Chaplin quote -- "In the end, it's all a gag."
- In the End It's All Improvised
- Everything from Nothing
- Austin Improv: We've Got Nothing for You
- Austin Improv: The Nothing You Want
- Tearing Down Fourth Walls Since 1994!
- Austin Improv: Bound to Break Boundaries
- Improv Without An Audience is Basically Masturbation
- Your Laughter Needed
- Tickle Your Brain
- Austin Improv: Show Yourself!

whew, I'm spent for now. Some of those were improvised slogans, some of them were obviously jokes. Keep the ideas flowing, I'm loving all this input!

I like Everything from Nothing too.

Another idea I had:
You're improvising.

I'd really like something that, when people see it, they're inspired to want to learn and do and teach and incorporate improv. Something that makes everyone feel like they could do improv.
