Things I Like About The New Movement
New Movement folks that have performed at the Hideout while I've been around have been unfailingly friendly and good natured.
The two shows that I've seen (Delta Burka and The Control Group) featured players that were clearly very talented, and especially strong at immediate YesAnding and jumping all over the game.
The level of hustle TNM must put in to do as much as they do is hugely admirable.
This community is unique in the heavy emphasis that we put on inclusiveness and it has a ton more potential in that direction. To not maximize that would be stupid and pointless. I'd love to see more TNM representation on the forums and at community events, and the rest of us can help make that happen by being as welcoming and supportive of TNM people, posts and events as possible. That said, this stuff takes time.
Please please please keep putting yourselves out there for the sake of making this community as open and awesome as possible.
This thread is for all the nice things that I've heard people say about TNM over the last few years; I invite you to say them here. (If you want to start a different conversation please start a different thread.)

I house-manage the Thursday Threefer at the Hideout and every time we've had a New Movement troupe, you guys have been super fucking awesome and nice and appreciative.
I also direct the Fancy Pants Mash-Up which has led to discovering some freaking awesome improvisers from The New Movement. One being Margaux Binder, who is a member of The Control Group. She has now played in the last two Fancy Pants. She has consistently impressed everyone who has seen her play and she is extraordinarily nice. I was also super happy to see her at The Same Years' Eve party.
I really love this community and I think it has a lot to offer to each individual within it. I want to see more New Movement involved on this forum and I want y'all to tell us about what's happening over there!
I'd love to go check out shows and events that you guys are having.
Lovin' this!

This alone is worth special recognition. It's super impressive and I always notice when I see a TNM poster and sticker. They definitely got some crowds going at FFF which was neat to see.acrouch wrote:The level of hustle TNM must put in to do as much as they do is hugely admirable.
In terms of great troupes, Spirit Desire is wonderful. I caught them at Out of Bounds and again at ColdTowne a month or two ago and I'll gladly see them whenever my schedule allows it. There is a wonderful playful energy among them and it's so genuine and infectious.

Audrey pulled in a couple of TNM dudes for the Steam cast, and they have been super awesome to play with. Either of them can go from fucking hilarious to deadly grounded in a heartbeat, and they're both super swell dudes on and off stage. If they're representative of the talent and personality of folks over there, I'd be happy to play with any of y'all any day, and I'm pretty bummed that it's taken so long for them to get into circulation with the rest of the community. Cross those fucking streams, people!

Dammit Marc, you beat me to the punch. So instead of that, I'll just say: great thread idea, Andy. I want to know these TNM people better.Marc Majcher wrote:Audrey pulled in a couple of TNM dudes for the Steam cast, and they have been super awesome to play with. I'm gonna take a field trip to see a TNM show as soon as I can, just in honor of this discussion.

I have met many quite talented, caring, fun, and creative people at TNM!
I also really love the way the inside of their theater looks with the fairy lights and art from their performers.
Also, I often ramble on about how Spirit Desire is a troupe that you can just feeeeel their love and support for each other when they are onstage -- they fuck with each other like crazy, but it's a testament to how much they trust and feel comfortable with each other.
Shyla writes consistently captivating blog posts on the TNM Improv Wins blog. I've never met her in person, but from her writing, I have learned that she and I share a lot of similar views on this crazy beautiful beast called improv.
Dan Grimm is an improv wizard. Patrick Knisley is one of the sweetest, most patient people I've ever met. Micheal Foulke is a fucking bizarro genius.
And they have a whole lotta love for each other, and love is always lovely. There's not enough of it in this world!

Britt Wright, of Delta Burka fame, is really awesome. I remember her volunteering for WaffleFest, and I thought that was really cool. She's a super bridge builder and extremely nice. She's since moved to New Orleans, but I follow her on Twitter.

A few months ago I was getting up at TNM's stand up comedy open mic and from the get go everyone over there was SUPER cool and welcoming to me. Rob Gagnon was hosting it a lot and went out of his way to make me feel comfortable.
The Thursday night open mic there is a really supportive and eclectic group with seasoned and brand new comedians.

LOVE. THIS.
Bare Moxie impressed the hell out of me. Three awesome female improvisors, all in every scene, playing fast and yet still having the kind of timing that kept their lines from colliding. Big envy here.
Chris and Tami's show in Dallas was friggin' spectacular when I saw it a year (or two?) ago. I still talk about Chris' depiction of Rick Flair lighting sparklers and placing them in potted plants. A ridiculous premise that Trew played so damned straight, you were amazed how that seemed "normal".
Tami Nelson's explanation of the Straight-Absurd dynamic is my favorite by far. More importantly, in her workshop on it she was able to convey it in a way that blew my mind. And I felt my scenes could benefit from more training from her in that area.
