The Sci-Fi Comedy Double Feature - OFFICIAL CAST

Post by troy »

We want to give much thanks and love to everyone who came out to the auditions on Wednesday (nearly 50 people!). We hope you guys had fun. It's amazing how many talented improvisors Austin continues to cultivate - we were just blown away.

As these things go, it's impossible to take everyone, but remember that there's LOTS going on improv-wise in town. Keep auditioning, joining shows, forming troupes, taking classes and the like.

Also, if you are interested in possibly joining the technical design crew for the show, or contributing in any other way, shoot Sean and I an email.

Here's the cast:

Chris Allen
Nicole Beckley
Andy Crouch
Alex Dobrenko
Steve Harwood
Sean Hill
Courtney Hopkin
David Lampe
Jay Michael
Troy Miller
James Roberts
Peter Rogers
Ruby Willmann
Lauren Zinn

First rehearsal is Next Wednesday, Nov. 16, 7pm at the Hideout.

And here are the answers to the AUDITION TRIVIA QUESTIONS:

1. Who is the creator and on-screen narrator of the Twilight Zone?
ROD SERLING

2. How long was the mission of the crew of the Starship Enterprise?
5 YEARS

3. Are Twilight Zone episodes half an hour or one hour long?
BOTH (this was a trick question - one season of the show's 5 year run was hour long episodes)

4. In one famous episode, what furry creatures caused trouble for the Enterprise?
TRIBBLES

5. The opening credits of Twilight Zone alert that you are about to enter a dimension of what 3 things:
SOUND, SIGHT, MIND

6. Besides Klingons, name one other Star Trek alien race:
ROMULANS, VULCANS, and any other verifiable race from the original series (such as GORN, THOLIANS, etc.)

Congrats to Marc Macher who was the only person to get all the answers right (correctly nailing our trick question)!

--------------------------------------------------
The first show to kick off the Hideout's 2012 Mainstage show run (Jan-Feb) will be....

"The Sci-Fi Comedy Double Feature"
Directed by Troy A. Miller and Sean Hill

A double dose of mystery and adventure, based on two of the most popular television shows of all time!

Your first stop...
"Improvised Twilight Zone": Enter another dimension of bizarre occurrences, twist endings and ominous voice overs.

Followed by...
"Improvised Star Trek": Beam into the final frontier with Start Trekkin, the Hideout's long-running riff on Captain Kirk and company.

Two shows! One cast! Maximum fun!

Auditions will be held on
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 9TH, 7PM in the HIDEOUT DOWNSTAIRS THEATRE

A few things to know:

1. You do not have to RSVP to audition, although to help us in planning if you know for sure you are coming please indicate so here on the forums.

2. You also do not have to know the ins and outs of either "Twilight Zone" or "Star Trek" to be considered for the show. Both shows are rooted in relationship work that exists outside the genre, which is what we will be focusing on. Of course, knowing and/or being fans of the show is certainly a plus.

3. For the uninitiated, Trek is not us doing impressions of the show's cast. It IS set in the original show's universe, but another ship, another Captain and so on. Of course there are still Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons and such. Twilight Zone will for sure include a Rod Serling type narrator, but again not a Rod Serling impression.

4. The show itself will likely work this way:
- A per show cast of 8 players max take the stage
- We do a 25-30 minute episode of Twilight Zone
- The players leave the stage
- There is a 10 minute intermission or audience-focused half time show
- The same players change into costume for Star Trek and re-take the stage
- We do a 45-50 minute Star Trek show

5. Expect the audition to go til 10pm and no later, with the possibility of breaking earlier.

6. Auditions are casual. Come in comfortable clothing.

7. The cast of the show will likely by 12-14 people, with 2-3 slots designated as support or what we like to call "scenographer" (or snogger). Snoggers play support characters and are on hand to provide wigs, costumes, set pieces and the like if the scene requires it.

8. Rehearsals will be on WEDNESDAY nights, 7pm, starting November 16th, continuing up to the holidays, then into the first part of January. Your attendance at the majority of rehearsals is crucial and mandatory.

9. Understand that this is an audition. That means that even if we like you as human beings we may not cast you. Never take not getting cast as personal. Some of the cast will even be in place before the auditions happen.

10. If you absolutely, positively in no-way shape or form can make even part of the audition but would like to be considered, please let us know by email with the subject line "double feature auditions".

11. At the very least, expect the auditions to be a fun night of improv and shenanigans.

See you on the 9th!

I'm there! I have no idea about any of the newer Star Treks but I LOVED the original. I watched it everyday after school for three years (5th-8th grade. yep. I was a coooool kid). And I had a huge crush on Bones.

Would showing up late be bad form? I could make it 'round 8.
