IMPROV MIXER: Mix, Meet, Mingle, Play, Audition
Merlin Works will be hosting our quarterly Improv Mixer at Salvage Vanguard Theater. As usual, The Improv Mixer is intended to help improvisers make new friends and form or find troupes to rehearse and perform with. It's kinda like Speed Dating for Improvisers. This time around The Mixer will also serve as auditions for upcoming Gnap! Theater Projects Shows and Troupes.
The Mixer is open to the entire community: students, free agents, existing troupes looking for new members, coaches, or anyone who wants a free workout. At the beginning, directors, scouts and coaches will let the group know what they are looking for. Then Shana Merlin will lead an improv warmup where everyone will get to know each other and get comfortable. Then we will be divided into groups for open scenework. It's free, it's fun, and you just might get cast in a show or set up with a group of improvisers and a coach to form a new troupe.**
Sunday May 16th 2pm - 4pm Cost: FREE
Instructors: Shana Merlin
At the Salvage Vanguard Theater, Mainstage 2803 Manor Road
RSVP to Shana or just show up!
** Attending the mixer does not guarantee you will be placed in a troupe.

LuBu Here! Just wanted everyone to know that I'll be at the MerlinWorks mixer to scout new cast members for the upcoming second run of Guilds of Steel.
Tentatively entitled "Guilds of Steel: The Reign of Haggoth," The show will follow a group of gamers as they struggle to level up and relate to each other in the online world of Garraton. For more information you can read these love letters from the Austin Chronicle:

The Mixer is this Sunday and there will be auditions for Guilds of Steel and Crack! The Improvised Puppet Musical and more...!
"Crack! The Improvised Puppet Musical"
Hey Puppet Lovers!
"CRACK! The Improvised Puppet Musical" has a 6 show run with Gnap! Theater Projects at SVT this summer -- first 3 weekends in August, Fri/Sat @ 8pm.
This is an open casting call notice for that run.
When: 2pm - 4pm on Sunday, May 16th
Where: SVT -- during the Merlin Works Mixer -- http://forum.austinimprov.com/viewtopic ... highlight=
Call backs will be the following Sunday, 2pm - 4pm on May 23rd.
Here is a description of Crack! (2009) on my PIP website:
http://puppetimprovproject.com/shows.html
One of my goals for the 2010 show is to have a new Guest Star each night. Currently I have guest star confirmation from SHANA MERLIN, JOHN RATLIFF & ALBERT IM.
Some of the original cast members are returning to be in the Crack! 2010 ensemble -- Sara, Valerie, Asaf, Madi & Howard. Our musical imp will be Michael Brockman.
I'm looking to cast around 9 more singing puppet improvisers to beef up the current ensemble. I will also be adding puppet techs -- ppl who help support and operate the larger puppets (requiring 2-3 ppl to operate). I'm wanting to have 8 ensemble members in each show, and two techs, as well as our Guest star.
We will do 2 rehearsals a week in late June & July leading up to the shows, with 1 a week during the show to get the guest stars familiar with the show. Rehearsals will PROBABLY be a mix of 3hr blocks on Sun-afternoon/ Mon-eve/ Thu-eve @ SVT. I'll be gone 2 weeks before the show which is why the rehearsals start the last week of June. I'll be asking ppl to commit to 75% of the show/rehearsal dates in order to be cast in the show.
FYI, the time commitment for being in the ensemble is big, but it is important. The reasoning is that we are working on developing ensemble improv skills, improv singing skills, and puppetry skills. It's a lot of plates to have up in the air, and we've learned that practice helps you get more comfortable with the insanity of it all.
Hope to see you on May 16th!
Sincerely,
Sara Farr
