Dear AIC,
I think most of us would agree that a big part of how we stay connected is through this forum. What can we do to make sure Bob has the resources to keep this forum up, running, and backed up in case of failure?
(See Bob's post about the crash HERE.)
I say we budget part of our income to keep the forum safe. What do you guys say?
Bob, how much would you need for us to do that?
Crashed Forum & Bob A's expenses
Anything about the AIC itself.

www.austinimprov.com is already on an insanely cheap hosting site (hostsgator or something like that). the forums and photo sites are not on that server, but could be moved over if we wanted to.

We weren't discussing doing anything with his servers except lighten the load on them by moving the austinimprov.com *content* to a 3rd party hosting facility. I only suggested it because I thought maybe Bob wouldn't mind having one less tech thing to worry about. His work is greatly appreciated, and I meant no harm by it.Mo Daviau wrote:I don't think you'll make Bob too happy if you have a vote on what he should do with his servers. Bob has busted his balls to maintain the forums and other austinimprov sites and I don't think the decision to move them belongs to anyone but him. Just sayin'.
I'm going to go suck my thumb now.

From my own personal experience, hosting a (meaning only 1) server out of my apartment was a real learning experience. It wasn't until hosting companies got to be so damned cheap and insane with their support that I said "fuck it" and out-sourced the hosting.
HOWEVER, after all the blood sweat and tears of setting up, maintaining and pridefully customizing the hosting on my server for almost 2 years, it was a VERY painful move for me. So from my small experience, I totally empathize and SUPPORT SUPPORT our man Bob, the IT guy. I do i do. Nothing but love.
standby your mang!
