I hope we have enough bad weather to warrant a cage match later in the year!

Luckily, you can start making fun of the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004 in about 3 weeks...

too soon.

Is toosoon.com taken? We should make an official list of what constitutes "too soon" and when jokes are once again appropriate. It should be overly complex, like:

Presidential assassination:
The sufficient post-assassination moritorium on jokes varies depending on a number of factors. Use the following equation to determine the appropriate amount of time between "too soon" and outrageously funny:
(Approval rating at time of assassination x unemployment rate) / number of years in office = number of months to wait

So a president with a 40% approval, operating in a 5% unemployment economy, who'd just finished one term would require a waiting period of 25 months.

We could do natural disasters, terrorism, scandals, celebrity deaths, sporting losses, etc. We could let people know, definitively and officially, if the joke was too soon or not.

With this president, there would be a polite mourning period of 0 seconds.

In fact, I could imagine Nelson from the Simpsons at the scene of the crime, simply going "ha ha."

Yes, toosoon.com is owned by the pharmaceutical giant Abbott Labs. If you thought this is their site for extolling the virtues of a premature baldness/ejaculation/pattern-male-ego-dehancer cure, you'd be close, but wrong. I think we probably all agree there's no real need for a drug to treat Central Precocious Puberty.

Regardless.

I will offer up toosoon.cynistar.net if you can come up with a good way for people to vote on whether topical jokes are too soon or not.

What about toosoon.austinimprov.com?

We could make it a public service of our community.
