we talked at the meeting about getting interns to do some of the saturday night stuff at the hideout, since it would probably be pretty easy to get some college kids involved for school credit. and if we get someone cool and reliable, they would be a great candidate for stage manager after jon leaves us for california.
well, i did some searching on the internet on how to get in touch with local college students and found these . . .
to post to the ut college of fine arts: http://www.collegecentral.com/UTFACS/Employer.cfm
to post to all of ut: https://accessut.utexas.edu/
to post to st. edwards: http://www.stedwards.edu/cpel/employers/postings.htm
acc does not seem to have any online listings for students that i can find.
i am totally happy to post to all these places asking for interns if this is what we want to do. let me know if people are excited about this, and if so what exactly we want to say in our post.

wow. i really missed alot at the meeting. i'm hanging out with jon hunt tonight, so i'll be sure to ask him his thoughts and post them later (as he is temporarily sans internet.) i only his thoughts would be of concern as i only assume that they would be answering to andy & jon right?
haha who would have thought that the Hideout of all places would become the man.

I really think interns are a great idea. however, a system like that is going to take some time to set up and we need volunteers for Saturdays as soon as possible. I think the intern idea is definitely something we should start the ball rolling on, but we need to figure something out to cover Saturdays in the interim.

Interns...
I'll give UT a telephone this week, and in the event that we start getting resume's, I'd be happy to "interview" if that's cool.
We never decided on what the interns would get out of it. UCB and IO gives them free classes and access to shows. If we're talking about getting a butt-ton of free and reliable(ish) labor, I think it's pay for itself. Especially if thes are kids excited about improv that can't afford classes.

I can talk to the St. Ed's theatre deptartment about interns, though a formal program may not be realistic until the Fall 2006 semester (FWIW, I was planning on volunteering with MMNT for their upcoming production of Antigone just to get some traditional theater operations experience.)
We should search for volunteers for the short term; I strongly agree that they need some perks like reduced/free tuition to classes, comps to shows, a keg party or something. The more people we can attract and put to productive use, the less of us get distracted and burned out doing tech work, and the broader base we have within the community.
One caution about getting volunteers; be ready to put them to work right away or they'll get bored and never come back. Also be prepared to pair them up with a mentor to train them on whatever they're doing. It sucks to be left alone not knowing what you're supposed to do.
