Things I've Never Done On-Stage

Postby Jon Bolden » February 24th, 2011, 5:16 pm

With improv you can never be sure (since our memories fail us).

I'm pretty sure I've never done any of these things in an improv scene:

- Washed a car
- Played a lesbian
- Been glued to the ground
- Been a king or queen
- Been in a tree house
- Realistically played a cop
- Rapped or done hip-hop style music
- Made out with more than one person at a time (mimed or real)
- Started a scene swimming
- Started a scene naked
- Done an eating contest
- Done a dance diamond

What about you?

Let's see...

I've never...

-Felt truly comfortable while playing a doctor or dentist
-Portrayed a courtroom scene in a realistic way
-Sang out beautifully
-Understood how to act when I'm in Roman times
-Played an infant for more than a minute
-Executed a really cool stage combat roll
-Fully carried someone in my arms
-Not gotten chastised after attempting an Asian accent
-Cut anyone on accident where blood was drawn

you make your own list!

oh, right, you did...damn it!

problem for me is it's way easier to remember things i HAVE done than imagine what i haven't. hmmm...

played an enchanted snowman
played an Armenian
blown up the Panama Canal
shot a minotaur in the face
had my body break into component modules like a reverse Voltron
spoken an established fictional language (Klingon, Kryptonian, Elvish)
slaughtered an African village
played a month of the year
been in the center of a star
played Anansi
sung Hall and Oates
made love on the Aurora Borealis

As a kicker, here are things I have done in real life, but never improvised on stage

- passed through a birth canal
- climbed a tree
- bowled a turkey
- cooked a turkey
- rewired a lightsabre

never have i ever...

- collected change after buying something
- sang an entire real pop song with my own voice
- mimed being naked and escaping from a locked car trunk
- realistically mimed having sex
- mimed serving a bromo seltzer (almost did this last Saturday but was cut off)
- spoke a foreign language for an entire scene
- cried real tears
- played a character who was honestly devoted to God

and i would like to do all of these things eventually. hopefully as the same character in the same longform... ha.

This we can fix. I'm thinking tonight's GGGlee would be a fine time.

Sounds like you really could make his dreams come true, Mr. Brockman.

Damn, Jon, I did most of that stuff, although I was duct taped to the floor, not glued. I did it to myself between the scene and a flashback.

I've never:
- Been an Olympic athlete.
- Survived a zombie attack.
- Jumped off something real of any significant height.
- Danced well.
- Been a human garbage can.
- Done a decent impression of anyone other than Jim Carrey.
- Played a functioning alcoholic.
- Commanded someone to "FIRE PHOTON TORPEDOES!"
- Played a mathematical concept.
- Done a scene in the style of a Strindberg play.
- Been a non-douchey frat guy (they do exist!).
- Shot a jackalope.
- Been Portuguese or Estonian.
