Audition Notice for Hurly Burly: A Burlesque Narrative

Audition signups for Hurly Burly are now open! Hurly Burly is an improvised burlesque narrative directed by Jayme Ramsay and Marc Majcher, playing Fridays at the Institution Theater in May and June of 2014. This show will follow the lives of eight women working together in a house burlesque troupe, spotlighting a different performer each week. It will have the tone of the 1930s Depression era, but exist out of time. Hurly Burly will blend playful performances on stage at the theater with grounded character driven moments off- and back-stage. We're also working with dance choreography and improvised burlesque.

Please come dressed comfortably and ready to move around. We're looking for performers with natural physicality and rhythm, but prior experience with burlesque is not required. Performers must be ready to be vulnerable in the show, both physically and emotionally. During auditions we'll work with movement and character-driven exercises. We want to see how well you can create and maintain strong characters. We won't ask you to perform any burlesque or genre-based work, so no worries there.

Auditions will be held at the Institution on February 2nd, between 4pm and 7:30pm. We will be casting eight women and four men, and anyone interested in stretching their improv experience is encouraged to come audition! Regular rehearsals will be Saturdays from 2:30-5:30pm, with additional weekly rehearsals to work on burlesque dance and choreography on Tuesdays from 7:30-9:30pm.
