Improv vs. Nerd Slam

Postby DVerbena » November 11th, 2013, 9:32 am

Hey all!

We are looking for performers for an Improv vs. Nerd Slam event. If you've never been to a poetry slam, basically we have 12 poets, each poem gets scored, and whoever gets the highest score for their poem wins a prize. At Nerd Slam, all the poems are nerdy (pop culture or academic subjects are both fine), poets compete with trivia, and then with poetry. Everyone gets a small prize for their poem, and the highest scoring poet gets a grand prize.

We want to take that format, and add improv. Both poets and improvisers would compete in a trivia round, then we would either have one round of improv, and one round of poetry, or we would alternate improvisers (in groups of 2-3), with poets (either single, or group pieces). We'll have the audience score each piece, and then give a grand prize to the best improv group, and the best poet. Then we'll add up everyone's score and give a trophy to either the improv team or the slam team.

The Nerd Slam is set for Sunday Nov. 24th, 8pm, at Spiderhouse Ballroom. We'd like everyone to come in costume (anything you want, as long as you don't dress as a "nerd"), and to bring whatever props you think will be useful. If you are interested in performing, please contact Deena at deena.verbena@gmail.com, or send a message to facebook.com/AustinNerdSlam.

Hope to see you all there!
