CALLING ALL STORYTELLERS!

THIS AMERICAN LIVE is launching a new run at The Institution Theater on Fridays at 8pm in November and is looking to gather more stories. While normally, we present the themes first to inspire tales, we are flipping the script and looking for your best stories to inspire our themes.

We’re looking for Videos, Sketches, Personal Stories, Readings of found transcripts or blogs, Interviews of interesting people (preferably from outside the improv world), or Performances of any media (dance, slam poetry, etc.) . Fiction or non-fiction, funny or dramatic. Write or share a story to be performed by someone else, perform the piece yourself, interview someone in front of our live studio audience, send us audio or video from some on-location reporting . . .

Past stories have included:
- Mike Graupmann’s first ever experience in a SENSORY DEPRIVATION TANK
- Lauren Cohen’s HISTORY OF FETISH and how it was started with the Mackintosh raincoat
- Luis Salinas’ fictional piece on a man who starts to subdivide all his organs into separate entities that then rebel against him.
- Daniel Rigney’s experience with THE NEUROSCIENCE OF APHASIAS via a case study from his speech pathology work.

The main thing is that EVERY SEGMENT SHOULD HAVE A THESIS, a particular point of view about the topic that is explored. The segment doesn’t have to be comedic, just engaging.

If you’re interested, please let us know. Just send us your story and give us an idea of what the thesis might be. If you need help developing your story and thesis, let us know and we might be able to coach you through the process.

We look forward to your submissions.

At this point, to be considered for submission, you need to email me with your name contact info and a one- or two-line pitch with what your story will be.

I did a Free Fringe at the Hideout about my stories in Peru. All are hilarious and it was a big hit - Ceej even told me I should make a one woman show. Anyway, that might be fun and I'd be willing to do something with it.

Hey Podcast Listeners! We've settled on a few themes inspired by some of the stories we've received so far, and we're posting them here to inspire MORE stories! WE NEED MORE STORIES!!
Let us know if you or someone in your network might have a story relating to one of the following themes:
  • Entrances & Exits

    Marginalized

    The Immigrant Experience

    Separation Anxiety

    Mapping the Mind

    Weather the Weather

    Unfinished
Season 3 of This American LIVE! is Fridays in November, but we're hoping to have all of our stories gathered over the next month.
Any help in connecting us to people for any of these themes would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a bunch,
Mike & Asaf & Not Ira Glass
