CALLING ALL STORYTELLERS!
THIS AMERICAN LIVE is launching a new run at The Institution Theater on Fridays at 8pm in November and is looking to gather more stories. While normally, we present the themes first to inspire tales, we are flipping the script and looking for your best stories to inspire our themes.
We’re looking for Videos, Sketches, Personal Stories, Readings of found transcripts or blogs, Interviews of interesting people (preferably from outside the improv world), or Performances of any media (dance, slam poetry, etc.) . Fiction or non-fiction, funny or dramatic. Write or share a story to be performed by someone else, perform the piece yourself, interview someone in front of our live studio audience, send us audio or video from some on-location reporting . . .
Past stories have included:
- Mike Graupmann’s first ever experience in a SENSORY DEPRIVATION TANK
- Lauren Cohen’s HISTORY OF FETISH and how it was started with the Mackintosh raincoat
- Luis Salinas’ fictional piece on a man who starts to subdivide all his organs into separate entities that then rebel against him.
- Daniel Rigney’s experience with THE NEUROSCIENCE OF APHASIAS via a case study from his speech pathology work.
The main thing is that EVERY SEGMENT SHOULD HAVE A THESIS, a particular point of view about the topic that is explored. The segment doesn’t have to be comedic, just engaging.
If you’re interested, please let us know. Just send us your story and give us an idea of what the thesis might be. If you need help developing your story and thesis, let us know and we might be able to coach you through the process.
We look forward to your submissions.
