AIC Potluck 2013 Love Notes

Hey y'all,

One of the most special parts of the annual AIC Potluck (which is coming on Sunday November 24th) is the Love Notes. If you're unfamiliar, these are short notes on scraps of paper that you write to your fellow improvisers and stuff into envelopes with their names, just like old-school Valentines. The notes can be signed or anonymous, long or short, it's totally up to you.

Since previous potlucks have resulted in a lot of people sitting around and writing notes for the entire party, instead of interacting with the folks around them, the Love Note policy is this: You are strongly encouraged to write your notes in advance, so that when you arrive, you can simply drop the notes in the respective envelopes and then get to socializing. If you realize you've forgotten someone, we encourage you to give a verbal note, in person, right then and there.

Here's the plan:
• Andy will post the Facebook invite for the potluck. RSVP for it.
• As of a week prior, there should be enough people RSVP'd that you can start writing your notes. There will be a Love Note Writing Party inside the Hideout coffeeshop on the afternoon of Saturday the 23rd; I'll have paper and markers, and you can come for as long as you want to write your notes.
• When you arrive at the potluck, there will be a designated place at the potluck for people to post their love-note envelopes. Create an envelope for yourself, then go crazy dropping your love notes in others' envelopes.
• The potluck will have a limited amount of paper and markers for those who don't have their notes already written, or who forgot to write a couple. But you'll have a MUCH better time overall if you do your homework in advance, and remember that verbal love notes can be even better than the ones on paper.

Hope all that makes sense, but post below if not. Lookin' forward to it.

Thanks so much for posting this Kevin! I really love the Love Note portion of the evening and look at my past envelopes occasionally, esp. when I'm blue.

I do have a few unsolicited suggestions:

I'm not familiar with the set-up at the Moose Lodge but if at all possible it would be great to split up the envelopes alphabetically across the room- A-L on this side of the room, M-Z on the other side of the room. It got so hot and crowded in the one area last year! I had to sit down to take a break!

To be consistent, everyone should write their first name (and their last name, if there are multiple people with the same first name). It's much easier to find an envelope if you're looking for just the first name, vs. looking for some first names, and some last names.

Couples, please make separate envelopes, one for each of you. If we're looking for just half of that couple it's harder to find them.

Also, the Love Note writing party is a great idea. If anyone can't make it have other mini-parties with other friends!

Good suggestions, both. No idea how the Moose Lodge is set up, either.

Are these usually read aloud or are they meant to be looked over privately?
